Heckmondwike driver killed after car hits tree

A man has died after the car he was travelling in crashed into a tree, West Yorkshire Police said.

The man was driving on Spen Lane, in Cleckheaton, when his blue Ford Focus went "out of control" and left the road at about 01:25 BST on Monday.

Police said the 44-year-old, from Heckmondwike, suffered serious head injuries and died at the scene.

The road was closed for a number of hours while officers carried out their investigation.
