Elland factory cordoned off over 'suspicious' item

A man has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and a factory has been cordoned off following the discovery of a "suspicious" item.

Police were called to what they first thought to be an industrial accident at the building on Park Road in Elland, West Yorkshire, at about 12:25 BST.

A man was then taken to hospital with hand injuries and arrested after he had been discharged, police said.

An Army bomb disposal team was called in to make sure the item was safe.

West Yorkshire Police said in a statement that officers had located "what could be a potentially suspicious item" during a search of the factory.

The A629 Calderdale Way and A6025 Halifax Road were both closed but have since reopened.

The closures led to significant traffic delays in the area.
