Leeds shop stand-off: Arson, theft and assault charges

A man has been charged with arson, theft and assault following a five-hour stand-off with police at a supermarket in Leeds.

Michael Palmer, of Brownhill Crescent, Leeds, was first noticed in Harehills Lane at about 13:20 BST on Sunday, police said.

The 32-year-old was followed into a nearby supermarket and later arrested.

He is also charged with affray. He was remanded in custody by magistrates to appear at Leeds Crown Court in July.
