Spiritual healer George Boak accused of groping patients

A spiritual healer accused of groping patients said he touched one of them intimately after wrongly believing she had asked him to do so, a jury heard.

George Boak said the woman told him "Go on - give it to me" and he touched her before realising he misread the situation, Bradford Crown Court heard.

Mr Boak, 70, of Aysgarth Avenue, Lightcliffe, near Halifax, denies groping the woman and two others.

The court heard he was arrested after one of the women complained to police.

The other two women later came forward with similar allegations, the jury heard.

'Absolutely stunned'

Mr Boak, who claims to use an energy flowing though his hands to treat physical conditions, denies two charges of sexual assault and one of indecent assault.

The court heard the first woman alleged he put his hand down her top and pushed himself against her during treatment at his home.

He told her: "Now you trust me, take your pants off," the court was told.

During police interviews Mr Boak denied making the comment, saying: "I dispute that most strongly."

He said he was "really puzzled and absolutely stunned" by the claim and suggested the woman may have been "emotionally disturbed", the court heard.

Mr Boak is also accused of putting his hands down a different woman's trousers on another occasion.

Touched groin

The court heard he admitted to police that he intimately touched a third woman, saying he wrongly believed she had invited him to make sexual advances during a therapy session.

He claimed the patient told him "Go on - give it to me" as he administered therapy, the jury heard.

Boak told police "I thought that was an invitation", and said he touched her groin before realising he had misread the situation.

He told detectives he treated patients in various ways, which sometimes included touching their skin.

He said that very occasionally he might have touched intimate areas, but only if specifically asked to by patients.

The trial continues.
