Snow drifts block roads on high ground in West Yorkshire

Snow and ice is continuing to cause disruption across West Yorkshire.

Many roads on high ground have been closed because of drifting snow, including the A635 in Holmfirth and the A6033 Keighley Road at Hebden Bridge.

Dozens of schools across the county are closed, with most of those in the Bradford and Kirklees areas.

Leeds Bradford Airport is open but a spokesperson said there was still some flight disruption and urged people to check with their airlines.

The Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team was called out four times over the weekend to help ambulances get through heavy snow.

Owen Phillips, from the team, said "It's been a very busy weekend for us, but the weather this weekend has been fairly unprecedented.

"The ambulance crews have made valiant efforts trying to do their job in horrendous conditions, but ultimately they aren't equipped to get through snow like this."
