Three workers accused of ill-treating elderly residents at a care home in West Yorkshire have been cleared.

Hope Young, 18, Mark Senior, 28, and Louise Dent, 24, were accused of mistreating residents at Green View House care home in Huddersfield.

All three were unanimously cleared of 19 charges, by a jury at Leeds Crown Court.

They had been arrested after alleged incidents in 2010 and 2011 at the home, which is now closed.

Mr Senior had denied 10 counts of ill-treating or neglecting persons who lack mental capacity.

Allegation of spitting

Ms Dent denied one count of the same charge and Ms Young denied eight similar charges.

During the week-long trial the court heard Ms Young, of Pennine View, Linthwaite, Huddersfield, was alleged to have spat at Margaret Castleton, who was in her 80s, at the care home for elderly men and women.

It was also claimed she had ill-treated a number of other people in her care.

Mr Senior, of Manchester Road, Linthwaite, was accused of putting his hand up resident Rosie Pearson's skirt and suggesting they go away together.

Ms Dent, of Greenlea Court, Dalton, Huddersfield, was alleged to have pushed resident Gwyneth Fowler after the pensioner nipped her and "struck her in the shoulder area".

Dent and Young sobbed as the jury foreman responded with not guilty verdicts for every count.
