Leeds council revokes Jimmy Savile's Leeds Award

Councillors in Leeds have stripped Jimmy Savile of an award he was given by the authority in 2008.

The Leeds Award, which honours people who have made an outstanding contribution to the city, was given to the former DJ and broadcaster in 2008.

Councillors also agreed no other form of commemoration should be progressed.

Savile, who died last year, is being investigated by the Met Police over claims he carried out abuse over a 40-year period.

The decision was agreed at a meeting of the full council earlier.
