Lib Dems win Calderdale council Warley ward by-election

The Liberal Democrats have successfully defended a marginal seat at a council by-election in West Yorkshire.

James Baker held on to Calderdale Council's Warley ward, where Labour had returned another councillor in May's main polls.

Councillor Baker secured 1,066 votes, ahead of Labour's Jonathan Timbers who attracted 896 votes and Conservative Christopher Pearson with 454 votes.

The by-election follows the resignation of Lib Dem councillor Keith Hutson.

A total of 2,565 votes were cast, a turnout of 29%.

The result leaves Calderdale council with 20 Labour councillors, 17 Conservatives, 12 Lib Dems and two Independents.
