Crane moves boat from Rochdale Canal

An operation has taken place to move a narrowboat which became wedged across a canal after flooding in Hebden Bridge.

The 58ft boat was lifted and turned across the Rochdale Canal as water levels rose during heavy rain on Friday.

As the canal returned to normal, the boat became stuck and blocked the passage to other traffic.

British Waterways said a 300-tonne crane was used to lift the stranded boat from the weir.

Homes and businesses were affected after a month's rain fell in 24 hours.

British Waterways said it had been consulting with customers and businesses affected by the flooding.
