Italy fan in bid to touch Olympic torch in Leeds
A woman has been bundled out of the way by members of the Metropolitan Police torch security team during the Olympic torch relay in Leeds as she attempted to touch the torch in the hope of bringing good luck to Italy's football team.
The incident happened at about 07:30 BST as the torch was being carried along Kirkgate in Leeds.
Gilda Porcelli, who owns and runs an Italian restaurant in Leeds city centre, was pushed out of the way by an officer who was accompanying Romanian torchbearer Alexandru Dumitru on his leg of the relay.
Ms Porcelli admitted it was a "mistake" to step out in front of the relay to try and touch the torch.
She said she was hoping to bring good luck to the Italian football team ahead of its clash with Germany in the Euro 2012 semi-finals on Thursday.
