Lancashire foot-sniffing teacher sentenced for child sexual assault

A teacher who admitted sexual assault by sniffing the feet of schoolchildren in Lancashire has been spared jail.

Martyne Airey, 51, of Parkinson Street, Blackburn, was handed a 15-month prison term, suspended for two years, after he admitted eight counts of sexual assault on a child under 13.

The charges related to pupils aged between eight and 11, between June 2012 and October 2013.

Airey was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years.

Sentencing Airey at Preston Crown Court, Judge Simon Newell said he must also complete a sexual offences treatment programme and pay a surcharge of £100.
