Leyland head teacher denies sexually abusing pupil

A head teacher has pleaded not guilty to sexually abusing a primary school pupil in Lancashire.

James Bird, 53, of Acorn Close, Leyland, is accused of four counts of gross indecency with a boy under 16, at a school he previously worked at, between 2002 and 2004.

He has been suspended from Newton Bluecoat CE Primary School, Preston, during legal proceedings.

His next hearing is on 5 September at Preston Crown Court.

A trial date has been set for 10 November.
