Woman killed in Leyland as car mounts pavement

A woman died when a car mounted a pavement and hit her as she stepped out from a shop in Leyland.

Police said the pedestrian was on Sumner Street at 13:00 BST when a gold Nissan Qashqai struck her.

The 53-year-old died at the scene. Traffic officers closed the road, with Lancashire Police launching an investigation into the circumstances.

PC James Power said: "I would appeal to anybody that witnessed this collision to contact the police."
