Two people are being questioned on suspicion of the manslaughter of a two-year-old girl from Blackpool.

A woman, 29, and man, 41, were initially arrested on suspicion of neglecting Sophie Jones.

Emergency services went to Jameson Road at about 23:45 GMT on Tuesday after a report a toddler had suffered a cardiac arrest. Sophie died later in hospital.

A post-mortem examination has proved inconclusive and toxicology tests will be carried out.

The pair were also arrested on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Det Supt Paul Withers said: "This is a tragic incident where a little girl has lost her life. A full investigation is under way to try to establish exactly what has happened."

A woman, 65, and man, 60, who were also arrested on suspicion of child neglect have since been released without charge.
