Padiham girl, 8, sexually assaulted by a man

An eight-year-old girl has been sexually assaulted in Lancashire.

Police said the girl was attacked by a man who approached her in Thompson Street, Padiham, at around 13:00 GMT on Thursday.

They are trying to establish the exact circumstances of the incident and said the girl was being supported by specially trained officers.

The man is believed to be in his mid to late teens with blue eyes and gelled, brown hair that was swept to one side.

Detective Sgt Jo Pemberton said they are "in the early stages" of the inquiry.
