Blackpool late night drinking decision postponed

A decision on restricting drinking in the early hours of the morning in Blackpool's pubs and bars has been adjourned until the new year.

Blackpool Council's licensing committee earlier began a hearing a proposal to ban the sale of alcohol after 03:00.

It is backed by police and some residents but opposed by pubs and bars.

The adjournment decision was taken after lawyers for pubs and bars argued they were not given enough notice about the hearing.

Councillor Adrian Hutton, acting chairman of the licensing committee, said: "It is vital the legal process is followed to ensure we come to the right decision for Blackpool."

More than 70 submissions have been made to the council over the proposal.
