Blackpool death of Stephen Butt prompts murder inquiry

Hush nightclub, Blackpool Police want to speak to a taxi driver who picked Mr Butt up outside the Hush nightclub in Blackpool

A murder investigation has been launched after a man collapsed following a night out in Blackpool.

Stephen Butt, 50, collapsed outside his home on Park Lane, Preesall, after a night out with his partner and her family.

Mr Butt was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital where he died.

Police had thought he collapsed, about 06:00 BST last Sunday, because he was ill but now think he was assaulted and his death was "suspicious".

Det Supt Andy Murphy said he wanted to speak to anyone who was in Blackpool town centre pubs, including Hush and Yates's, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

He said: "I am also keen to trace a private hire taxi driver who took the group back to the address in Preesall from Blackpool.

"The driver of the taxi would have picked up Stephen, a woman and another man from outside Hush nightclub between 3.30am and 5am.

"I would appeal directly to the driver to come forward and contact us as they could have information crucial to the investigation."

Two women, aged 50 and 25 and from Manchester, have been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and are currently in custody.
