Colne rape suspect is sought by police

Police have issued a description of the man they want to talk to after a woman was raped walking home alone after a night out in Lancashire.

The victim, 35, was attacked at the back of Exchange Street, Colne, at about 22:00 BST on Saturday.

The suspect is white, aged about 40, with shaved hair, stocky build and a tattoo on his arm, police said.

A 35-year-old man arrested on suspicion of rape on Wednesday has been released without charge.

The victim was on her way home and had left the Union Exchange pub before walking along Market Street and on to Parliament Street, police said.

She was walking in the direction of Exchange Street when she met a man smoking a cigarette at the junction with Blascomay Square.

The pair spoke for a short time before the woman was attacked.

Police believe the attacker was disturbed when he overheard someone else speaking further up the street.

The suspect was wearing a white shirt and black trousers and spoke with a local accent.
