Boy, 8, is bitten in face by dog in Lancaster

An eight-year-old boy is to undergo facial surgery after being attacked by a dog in Lancaster, police have said.

He was attacked in the front garden of a house on Lupton Place at about 20:00 BST on Wednesday, a spokesman said.

The child suffered puncture wounds to his face and was admitted to the Royal Preston hospital for surgery.

A 33-year-old man from Lancaster was arrested on suspicion of having a dog dangerously out of control in a public place. He was later bailed.

Lancashire Police said the dog had been seized and investigations were under way to establish if it is a banned breed.
