Murder arrest after man, 60, found dead in Darwen

Police cordon Crime scene investigators are carrying out a forensic search of the area

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a 60-year-old man was found in Lancashire.

The man's body was found at The Lea, Darwen, in the early hours after police were called.

The victim had been subject to an assault, said police. The body has not yet been formally identified.

A 31-year-old is currently being questioned by detectives. A post-mortem examination is due to take place later to help establish the cause of death.

Crime scene investigators are carrying out a forensic search of the area.

Ch Insp Neil Esseen, of Lancashire Police, said: "I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who saw or heard any signs of a disturbance to come forward and contact the police.

"We have a team of highly trained police officers working on this investigation and we are determined to find out exactly what happened."
