Giant spider crab comes to Blackpool

Help

A giant Japanese spider crab has arrived at a Blackpool aquarium.

The crab, which has a claw span of 9ft (2.7m), has been called Big Daddy - after the wrestler Shirley Crabtree - at the town's Sea Life Centre.

The giant crustacean was saved from the Japanese fish market and flown to the UK, where he spent a few months in quarantine in Dorset before being moved to Lancashire.

He is set to join a smaller female Japanese spider crab and Sea Life staff hope the pair will soon become parents.
