A 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary after safes were stolen from Fleetwood Town Football Club, police have said.

Police believe at least four people broke into Highbury Stadium, Highbury Avenue, on Saturday night.

Officers said the group gained access through a perimeter gate and a door within the stands was then forced open.

An angle-grinder, crowbars and a hammer were used to take a TV and the two safes, which had been locked by keypad.

Det Insp Phil Jones said: "So far we have a number of lines of enquiry which we are progressing and comprehensive CCTV to review.

"This is a crime which has affected the heart of the local community."

Earlier on Saturday, the League Two club had played a home fixture against Oxford United.
