Missing John Ankers: Appeal over Blockbuster job loss man

Mr Ankers' family said his disappearance was "completely out of character"

Police are trying to find a Wirral man who went missing days after finding out he was being made redundant.

John Ankers, 28, was last seen leaving his home in Sandfield Road, Upton, for Blockbusters in Birkenhead at about 10:15 GMT on Sunday.

He did not turn up and has not contacted his wife Katrina, 27, or his family or friends since.

His family said he was depressed at the news Blockbusters was closing its stores, but this was out of character.

Police believe Mr Ankers, who married Katrina in September, may have travelled to Birkenhead by bus on Sunday.

'Ghost hunt plan'

He is described as 5ft 8ins (1.7m) tall with dark brown hair and was last seen wearing a black jacket, white polo shirt, skinny blue jeans and black trainers with white soles.

Police said he is known to frequent the areas of Formby, Liverpool city centre, West Kirby, Heswall, Royden Park and Thurstaston beach.

Mrs Ankers said she had already searched many of those areas for him.

"Everybody does love John," she said.

"Nobody would say a bad word against him.

"We were meant to be going to look at a cafe today for him to see if he could take it over, and we were meant to be going on one of those ghost hunts on Saturday in York.

"He was saying that things were looking up a bit since losing his job, so there is nothing really for him to do that (disappear)."

His sister, Lauren Ankers, said: "My mum is in bits, so is his wife, so am I, so is his dad.

"He has got that many friends, we just want him home."

Ch Insp Nick Gunatilleke added: "He is a very, very social person with a wide circle of friends.

"He has got keen interests in hill walking, dog walking and is a keen Liverpool fan.

"This behaviour is completely out of character."

Anyone who has seen him is being urged to contact police.
