Man dies after losing control of car in Edenfield

A 25-year-old man has died after his car hit a lamp post and a tree in Edenfield, police have said.

Bernard Boylan, who was from Bury, was travelling south on the A56 dual carriageway at about 20:30 GMT on Monday.

He lost control of the car and hit the lamp post and tree before coming to a halt down a shallow embankment on the exit slip for Edenfield.

He was taken to hospital, but died from significant internal injuries.

Sgt David Hogarth said: "An investigation is underway into the circumstances of what happened but I would appeal to anybody that witnessed this crash or saw the car being driven prior to the collision to contact police."
