Seven bailed in police officer attack Avenham, Preston

Seven people arrested over an attack on a police officer in Lancashire have been bailed pending further inquiries.

The males, aged from 14 to 32 and all from Preston, were arrested on suspicion of wounding.

Police said the constable was knocked unconscious while on patrol in Avenham, Preston, on Saturday.

A Lancashire police spokesman said he was recovering at home after being treated for cuts and bruises at the Royal Preston Hospital.

The attack happened at about 20:00 GMT in the Duke Street and Albyn Bank Road area of Avenham.

The force spokesman said the policeman was struck from behind and knocked to the ground after approaching a group of about 10 youths.

The seven who were arrested have been bailed until 11 February.
