Spar shop in Burnley A man was arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with the blaze

A man had to be rescued from the roof of a convenience store destroyed in a suspected arson attack in Burnley.

Firefighters were called to a blaze at the Spar shop on Padiham Road at 22:50 GMT on Sunday.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson in connection with the incident.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire Service said a handful of nearby homes were evacuated but residents were allowed to return after a couple of hours.
