Blackpool arrest over serious sexual assault in Burnley

A man has been arrested in connection with a serious sexual assault on a woman in Burnley.

It happened near the Inn at the Wharf off Manchester Road between 20:30 and 21:00 GMT on Thursday, police said.

The 47-year-old victim, from Liverpool, had been drinking with friends at the pub before the assault. Her handbag was taken by her attacker.

A 30-year-old man was arrested in Blackpool and is being questioned by detectives in Burnley.

Det Insp Marie Haworth said: "This is a serious offence which has understandably left the victim traumatised."
