Police have released CCTV images after two women were sexually assaulted in a Lancashire town.

A 43-year-old woman was walking in a back street off Manchester Road, Haslingden, in the early hours of Sunday 19 August when she was attacked.

Detectives believe it could be linked to an assault on a 65-year-old in Higher Deardengate four days earlier.

The 43-year-old was grabbed from behind and sexually assaulted on a street near Bank Mill Street and Hope Street.

Police said she had noticed a man acting suspiciously just before the attack, which took place sometime between 00:30 and 01:00 BST.

The man fled back in to Manchester Road after the attack.

He is described as Asian, about 20 years old, slim with short hair and about 5ft 6in (1.6m) tall.

Police believe the attack could be linked to an earlier sexual assault on a 65-year-old woman, which happened in Higher Deardengate at about 20:00 BST on 14 August.

The woman was grabbed by an Asian man and sexually assaulted.

Det Ch Insp Sion Hall, from Burnley CID, said: "These are offences which we are treating seriously and we have a dedicated team of detectives following a number of lines of inquiry to try and trace the man responsible.

"I would appeal to anyone who recognises the man in these CCTV images or who thinks they know him to get in touch with police.

"I would also appeal again to anybody that was in the area at the time of the offences that thinks they may have seen the offender or witnessed the incident to contact police."
