Paula Hounslea loopline remains find treated as murder

Paula Hounslea was last seen in August 2009

The death of a woman whose remains were found by a disused railway line is being treated as murder by police.

Paula Hounslea, 37, from West Derby, was last seen by her family when they went for a meal on 22 August 2009.

Her remains were found with burn marks on them in a disused fire pit next to the Liverpool Loopline in Fazakerley on 5 May.

Forensic tests revealed her body was placed in the pit some time between last Autumn and the start of the year.

They were found by a dog walker.

Detectives are trying to create a timeline of her movements and have appealed to anyone who may have information to contact them.

Ms Hounslea was last seen wearing a grey jumper, with possibly a pink cardigan over the top, dark jeans and a gold pendant necklace.

It is thought she had three small bags of clothes with her.

Det Ch Insp Phil McEwan said: "We are trying to piece together Paula's last movements and I would like to urge people to cast their minds back to 22 August 2009 and contact us if they believe they may have seen anyone matching Paula's description either on the day she disappeared or since."

He added that officers were also keen to hear from anyone who saw any "suspicious activity" around the area of the loopline where the 37-year-old was found.
