Four waste recycling centres in Lancashire close

Four household waste recycling centres in Lancashire have closed after attempts to save them failed.

Sites in Bacup, Colne, Garstang and Great Harwood have been shut as part of Lancashire County Council's (LCC) £179m budget cuts over the next three years.

As well as petitions to save the centres, Conservative county councillors challenged LCC's decision to close them in December.

The scrutiny committee upheld the decision which will save LCC £520,000.

While the recycling centres are now closed to the public, staff will continue to work at the sites until 1 April.
