Whalley Hydro £20,000 grant for hydro-electric generator
A community project aiming to generate renewable electricity in Lancashire has been awarded £20,000 from the government.
Whalley Community Hydro Limited is one of the projects to receive money from the government's Local Energy Assessment Fund.
The group is planning to install a 100kw hydro-electric generator at the weir on the River Calder at Whalley.
The grant will be used to pay for a detailed design study.
The scheme is to be considered for planning approval by Ribble Valley Borough Council on 9 February.
There has been a weir at Whalley for about 600 years and it is believed to date back to the founding of Whalley Abbey.
