Man found seriously ill in Darwen alleyway

A man has been found lying in a Lancashire alleyway with facial injuries, frost bite and suffering from hypothermia.

He was discovered between Snape Street and Preston Street in Darwen at 08:00 GMT on Saturday after residents heard groaning noises, police said.

Detectives are now trying to establish how the 36-year-old came to be there and whether he had been attacked.

Det Insp Neil Ashton appealed to anyone with information to contact police.

He added: "The man is making progress and once well enough he will be interviewed by officers."
