A man has been jailed for life for murdering his former girlfriend at her flat in Preston.

David Bullman, 29, of Elswick Road in Ashton, Preston, beat and strangled Nicola Seed at her home in Hazel Grove, Ribbleton, in February.

A post mortem examination showed she died from head injuries.

Bullman pleaded guilty to murder on the first day of his trial at Preston Crown Court on Tuesday. On Friday he was ordered to serve 16 years in prison.

Senior Investigating Officer, Det Ch Insp Andrea Barrow from the Force Major Investigation Team, said: "We are pleased with the sentence passed down today.

"The fact that Bullman has entered a guilty plea at least saved Nicola's family from having to go through the ordeal of listening to the evidence which would have been very distressing for them.

"Bullman has shown no respect for human life and he callously killed a mother of four young children. He will now have time to reflect on his actions as he faces this lengthy spell in prison.

"Our thoughts remain with Nicola's family who understandably are going through a very difficult time."
