Nelson residents raise speeding concerns

Bollards and traffic monitoring will be introduced in Nelson in an attempt to reduce speeding and problem parking.

It follows concerns raised by residents about cars speeding on Manchester Road and quad bikes mounting the pavement.

Police and council officials were told about the problem at a recent Walverden and Cloverhill Partnerships and Communities Together (PACT) meeting.

Beat manager Pc Ian Willis said the outcome proved how the community, police and council could work together.

"The riders seem to have a total disregard for their own safety, as well as for pedestrians within the area, and action needed to be taken as soon as possible," he added.

The traffic monitoring equipment will be used to help build a picture of the speeds at which vehicles are travelling to help form a plan of action.

Bollards will be installed in an attempt to stop vehicles getting up on to the pavement.
