Trial for Blackpool nurse's murder accused

A provisional trial date has been set for a former ambulance technician accused of the murder of a nurse in a Lancashire hospital's car park.

Jane Clough, 26, was stabbed to death as she walked to her car at Blackpool Victoria Hospital on Sunday night.

Her ex-boyfriend and the father of her baby girl, Jonathan Vass, 30, is accused of her murder.

He appeared before Preston Crown Court and was remanded in custody until 11 October, when he will enter a plea.

Mr Vass, of Conway Drive, Preston, will face trial on 12 January 2011.

Ms Clough from Barrowford, near Nelson, had just finished her shift at the hospital's accident and emergency unit when she was attacked.

She was rushed back into the unit and her colleagues tried to save her but she died shortly afterwards.

A post-mortem examination showed she died of multiple stab wounds.
