A 17-year-old girl from Lancashire has died nearly a fortnight after falling seven floors from an apartment balcony in Spain.

Grace Ford, a pupil at Kirkham Grammar School near Blackpool, fell from the balcony in Magaluf, Majorca, on 17 July.

She was being treated for multiple injuries in hospital in Palma.

Ms Ford is understood to have been visiting the island with a group of sixth-form friends from her school.

'Lovely girl'

Police said she was found covered in blood after she fell on to a cement floor from a window at the Torrenova Playa hotel where she was staying.

She was taken to the Son Dureta hospital in the capital, Palma, where her parents kept a constant vigil.

Shortly before flying out on holiday with her friends, she moved her horse, Vespa, from Elswick Equestrian Centre where she had kept it for the past 18 months.

Co-owner of the stables, Carl MacKenzie, paid tribute to the "bubbly" teenager.

He told the BBC: "She was a lovely lovely girl, who would always have to time to stop for a chat. She was often down seeing to her horse, Vespa, which she clearly loved and had an attachment to.

"She had a really nice personality and it is such a shame that this happened. Our thoughts go out to the family."
