A former ambulance technician has appeared in court charged with the murder of a nurse in a hospital car park in Lancashire.

Jane Clough, 26, was stabbed to death as she walked to her car at Blackpool Victoria Hospital on Sunday night.

Her ex-boyfriend and the father of her baby girl, Jonathan Vass, 30, is accused of her murder.

Mr Vass, of Conway Drive in Preston, did not enter a plea when he appeared at Blackpool Magistrates' Court.

He spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address during the brief hearing.

Magistrates remanded him in custody, to appear at Preston Crown Court on Friday.

Ms Clough from Barrowford, near Nelson, had just finished her shift at the hospital's accident and emergency unit when she was attacked.

She was rushed back into the unit and her colleagues tried to save her but she died shortly afterwards.

A post-mortem examination showed she died of multiple stab wounds.
