Kent police officer injured in hit-and-run incident

Crash scene at Larkfield Police said the car failed to stop at the scene of the collision

A police officer has been seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver during a routine stop in Larkfield, Kent.

Police said the Tonbridge-based officer was struck down by a VW Golf in London Road at about 18:50 BST on Saturday.

He has been taken to a hospital in London, where his condition is described as serious but stable.

"The car failed to stop at the scene of the collision and inquiries are ongoing by officers to locate the car and driver," a spokeswoman said.

"The man involved is a Kent Police officer who was carrying out a routine stop."
