Two prisoners have absconded from Standford Hill open prison on the Isle of Sheppey in Kent.

Police said they were informed on Saturday evening that Scott Callaghan, 35, and Billy Harkins, 29, had walked out of the jail.

Callaghan is serving time for perverting the course of justice and Harkins for aggravated burglary.

Armed robber Michael Wheatley, nicknamed the "Skull Cracker", absconded from the same jail on 3 May.

Kent Police are appealing for anyone with information on Callaghan and Harkins's whereabouts to contact the force.

Wheatley, 55, was jailed for life with a minimum of 10 years at Guildford Crown Court after raiding the Chelsea Building Society in Sunbury, Surrey.

He was arrested in Tower Hamlets, east London, after being on the run for five days.
