Medway City Estate-to-Hoo road racers targeted by police

Police are to be given more powers to deal with anti-social behaviour caused by people racing their cars.

Kent Police and Medway Council are introducing two dispersal areas in the Medway City Estate and Hoo in response to complaints from residents.

People who cause distress could face fines of up to £2,500 and/or three months' imprisonment.

The dispersal areas will be in place for six months from 13 June to 13 December.

Police will be able to disperse groups of two or more people who cause or are likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

Between 21:00 BST and 06:00 BST, children under 16 can also be taken back home if they are not accompanied by a responsible adult, a force spokesman added.
