White cliffs of Dover rock fall shuts path

A popular footpath has been closed after part of Dover's famous white cliffs crashed into the Channel.

A small section of rock at Langdon Cliffs collapsed into the sea on Sunday and Monday, according to Dover Coastguard.

A coastguard spokesman said the two falls had blocked off stairs that lead down to Langdon Bay.

Kent County Council has put up a fence to stop walkers using the path.

It is thought freezing conditions over the winter may have weakened the chalk cliffs.
