A man whose badly beaten and partially naked body was found on a beach in Kent has been named by police as Gary Pocock, aged 34, from London.

Mr Pocock was found, stripped from the waist down, between the Little Groves caravan site and Isle of Sheppey Holiday Village, in Leysdown.

A post-mortem examination found he died of head injuries. Kent Police said he had suffered a "vicious attack".

A man from London is being held by police investigating the murder.

The 29-year-old was arrested on Friday evening and is currently being questioned.

A 44-year-old man and 43-year-old woman, both from London, who were arrested in connection with the investigation have been released without charge.

Police said Mr Pocock was known to spend a lot of time on the Isle of Sheppey.

Officers want to speak to anyone who saw or heard anything near the beach between 20:00 BST on Tuesday and 06:00 BST on Wednesday, when the body was found.

"We have released this photo of Mr Pocock in the hope that it might jog memories, and that someone might have seen him in the days and hours leading up to his death," said Det Ch Insp Jon Clayden.

"We continue to run an incident room out of Warden Bay Village Hall so I would welcome the opportunity to speak to anyone who has information, or who saw Gary prior to his death."
