Searches are under way after a man armed with what was thought to be a gun raided a travel agents.
Kent Police said the man made threats to shoot in Thomson travel agents in Church Street, Folkestone, and demanded money from the safe.
He left the shop with an unknown quantity of cash, officers said.
Armed police and a dog were sent to the scene and officers are searching the area. Three staff members and a member of public were in the shop at the time.
A spokeswoman for the force said no-one in the shop was physically hurt but they were left shaken.
She said the man entered the shop dressed entirely in black, and with a black scarf around his mouth and nose.
He was clean-shaven and wore large, black glasses, she added.
She said: "He was carrying what police believe was a black handgun."
The weapon had been hidden in a bag when he walked into the shop, she added.
