Thanet District Council agrees £3.3m ferry debt plan
Councillors in Thanet have agreed plans to tackle a debt of more than £3.3m after a ferry company ceased trading.
TransEuropa, which ran services between Ramsgate and Ostend, went into administration in April.
Thanet District Council had been providing financial support to the company since March 2011.
At a cabinet meeting on Wednesday the council agreed to take £1m from housing benefit subsidy to use on the debt.
The council said the money it had provided to TransEuropa was to "ensure the on-going future of the business".
It said it would take whatever action it could to "chase the debt".
