Man arrested over Gillingham racist attack

A 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of carrying out a racist attack in Gillingham, Kent.

The man, who was held in High Street at about 17:00 BST on Thursday, is also suspected of making threats to damage property and a public order offence.

He is currently being questioned by Kent Police officers.

Assistant Chief Constable Gary Beautridge said the force would " act swiftly" to any disorder following the death of soldier Lee Rigby.

The incident is not being linked with an attack on a mosque in Gillingham on Wednesday evening.
