Sheerness dockworkers injured in warehouse blaze

Fire at Sheerness docks Up to 50 firefighters tackled the blaze at Sheerness docks on the Isle of Sheppey

Five people have been injured in a large blaze at a warehouse at a Kent dockyard.

Six fire engines and up to 50 firefighters spent about 90 minutes tackling the fire at a building at Sheerness docks on the Isle of Sheppey.

Five men suffered smoke inhalation, with three treated at the scene and two taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.

The fire is believed to have started at about 11:20 GMT. A cloud of smoke could be seen for miles around.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze was extinguished at about 12:51 GMT but crews remained at the scene to check for hotspots.
