A man has been stabbed in the back with a fork and sprayed in the face with a household cleaner while dining in a restaurant with his girlfriend.

It happened in The Copperfield in Gravesend on Sunday evening.

Kent Police said the victim, 26, was approached by the attacker and asked outside for a fight. When he refused he was sprayed in the face and stabbed.

A 25-year-old man from Strood has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

The victim was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital, where he remains in an intensive treatment unit after suffering burns to his face and eyes. He has also had difficulty breathing.

Det Insp Ivan Beasley said: "This was not a random attack as we believe the victim and suspect are known to each other."
