Man held over Dartford family house fire

A 55-year-old man is being held by police after four family members were trapped in a house fire in Dartford.

Kent Police and the fire and rescue service were called to the house in Kingsley Avenue at 12:50 BST.

A 47-year-old woman and her two sons aged 14 and 20 escaped. Her 21-year-old son was led to safety down a ladder.

All four were treated at the Darent Valley Hospital for the effects of breathing in smoke. The 20-year-old remains under observation.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said two crews initially sent to the blaze found the ground floor well alight and two more engines were sent.

The fire is believed to have started in the utility room but Kent Police and the fire service are investigating the cause.
