The father of a Kent schoolgirl who was stabbed to death 19 years ago has died, it has been revealed.

Claire Tiltman, 16, was murdered in an alleyway just off the A226 London Road, in Greenhithe, on 18 January 1993 on her way to see a friend.

Kent Police said Cliff Tiltman died on 14 September without seeing his daughter's killer brought to justice.

In January he made an appeal from his nursing home for information, prompting fresh calls from the public to police.

During the appeal he said it would "mean everything" to him to find out who murdered his daughter.

'Good man'

Mr Tiltman's funeral was held at Eltham Crematorium, south-east London at 11.30 BST.

Det Ch Insp Rob Vinson said: 'Last month a good man went to his grave without ever seeing justice being served for the murder of his only daughter.

"This isn't the end of our investigation; we have always maintained that someone has information about this murder and we will continue to investigate it.

No-one has ever been charged with the murder.
