Lorry drivers hurt in M20 motorway crash near Ashford

The M20 was closed so the lorries and debris could be removed and the road repaired

Two lorry drivers have been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a collision involving four HGVs in Kent.

The crash happened on the coastbound carriageway of the M20 at junction nine for Ashford at about midnight.

Kent Police said two drivers were taken to Ashford's William Harvey Hospital, and two others were uninjured.

The carriageway was closed for several hours, while the lorries and debris were cleared and repairs carried out, but reopened at about 15:00 BST.

Motorcycle crash

Motorists were advised delays in the area could continue until Thursday evening.

Police said two of the lorries needed to be unloaded before they could be removed and a significant diesel spillage had caused serious damage to the carriageway.

Officers were not able to say what the lorries were carrying.

Anyone who saw what happened has been urged to contact Kent Police.

Officers have also appealed for witnesses to a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a van on the A21 near Tonbridge.

The biker was declared dead at the scene, near the junction with the A26, just after 15:50 BST on Wednesday.

The A21 was closed until 23:30 while police carried out an investigation.
